    Principal’s Corner

    Olympic Hills Families,

It was wonderful seeing so many families and students at Open House last week!

I want to share with you that our interim assistant principal, Vern Hayes, is no longer able to continue at Olympic Hills because of health issues. We are lucky to have found Karen Harris, who started on Monday and will be here until Rachelle Gardner returns in November. Karen Harris was the assistant principal at Concord K-8 and Beacon Hill International School and served as a director in the education department at UW. Karen comes highly recommended and is already building relationships with students in her first day at school. I appreciate all our students, families, and staff being understanding and adaptable with having several interim administrators. I am confident that Karen will be a strong AP until Ms. Gardner return. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions.

    Family Events and Activities

October 18th, 8:30am - Please help out with the PTA bulletin board—it needs a belated refresher for the 2019-2020 school year.  Our PTA Communications chair, Mariah, would love to have help giving our bulletin board a fresh new look.  Come for 30 minutes or an hour, whatever fits your schedule, to tear down old posts and put up some new signage.

October 22nd, 6:00pm-7:30pm - The OHE PTA invites you to join us for our first Family Resource Night and General Membership Meeting of the year on Oct. 22nd.  Free dinner at 6:00pm, followed by some quick PTA business.  Afterwards, our Physical Education Teachers, Ms. Meyer and Ms. Stephenson, will lead adults and kids in a fun mini-PE lesson! It will be a seated activity using the Rhythm Sticks and Yoga Mats that the PTA funded through our new mini-grant program.  All physical fitness/ability levels are welcome and accommodated. Come learn about what our students are doing in PE and join in. Childcare provided for the brief meeting--all ages are welcome to participate in the PE activity!  Free dinner and childcare.   Spanish interpretation provided.   All are welcome!

    Important Announcements

From the Nurse’s Office:  Seattle Visiting Nurse Association will provide annual flu vaccinations to students (ages 4 and older), staff and community members at Olympic Hills on Monday, October 28th from 12:30pm – 2:30pm. Most forms of insurance (including Apple Health and Medicaid) and cash or check are accepted.  A consent form needs to be completely filled out (copies in the Health Room). Families who have no insurance can write “No Insurance” and the student can still get a flu shot.

Flu shots are safe and effective. Getting a flu shot is the best way to help protect against influenza! Click the link for more information:  Flu Shot Clinic 2019

Safety Reminder: While walking to and from our school, please show your children through the crosswalks.  Thank you for teaching safety that will transfer to other parts of the city.

If you have submitted an application for Free and Reduced Lunch and have not heard back, please contact our cafeteria manager, Lynne Lingafelter at 206-252-0675 or stop by to see her at school. Paper applications take three weeks to process. Online applications take 24 hours.
