School Leader Update: Theresa Estrada
Posted:
Dear Olympic Hills families and staff,
I am pleased to announce Dr. Theresa Estrada has been selected as the interim principal of Olympic Hills Elementary for the 2023-24 school year.
Principal Estrada will replace Principal Mayra Toledo who is leaving Seattle Public Schools to pursue another professional opportunity.
Dr. Estrada has more than 30 years of professional experience in education. She considers her life’s work to be empowering and engaging students through student voice, supporting each student’s language, culture, background, and interests.
As a heritage Spanish speaker and a first-generation college graduate, Dr. Estrada feels honored to lead a school that centers multilingual education and equity-centered instruction.
Principal Estrada has deep experience in schools, serving as a bilingual teacher, director of multilingual education, substitute teacher, school principal, and superintendent. Most recently, she has served as assistant principal at North Beach and Leschi elementary schools. At Olympic Hills, she has served as the summer program site coordinator.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education, master’s in educational leadership, and a doctorate in educational administration.
Principal Estrada is excited to serve the Olympic Hills community and is looking forward to the start of the school year.
SPS will begin the search for a permanent Olympic Hills principal in spring 2024. At that time, SPS will share next steps with the community.
I want to thank Principal Toledo for her leadership and service to Olympic Hills Elementary. Principal Estrada began serving as interim principal on Aug. 7.
Please join me in welcoming Principal Estrada to Olympic Hills!
Sincerely,
Dr. Brent Jones
Superintendent
